Review: When Thea (the vicar's plain, spinster sister in small town England) finds a baby abandoned in the church, she thinks the new lord in town (and rake) Gabriel, Lord Macombe is responsible. He denies paternity but suspects his sister may be the mother. While they try to locate his sister, sparks fly.
The Good: Camp did a good job describing small town life and the pressures of being the vicar's sister. Additionally, I've read a lot of romance novels over the years and this is the first time an abandoned child was used to get the main characters today. Thea was smart, witty and overall likable. Gabriel was also very likable and their investigation, (although tedious at times) was cute. I liked that each character went into their relationship with no expectations of marriage and fully knowledgeable about what they were doing.
The Odd: I don't think Lord Macombe's title was clearly defined. Overall, not that huge of a deal but odd for a historical romance. Gabriel himself was also described as rake but he seemed like a really great guy. And while I liked the banter between Thea and Gabriel, I wasn't feeling any real sexual tension. There also wasn't any real 'scandal' as the title suggests.
Overall, an enjoyable read.
